about

Favilla means Ember in Latin.

The Ember represents the inner journey of the soul and spirit which is a fire that needs constant stoking and fanning, in honour of unconditional love for ourselves and others. Sometimes we can feel like our fire has gone out but with love and deep inner work we can fan the ember into a roaring blaze!

The album is comprised of a plethora of different instruments and rhythm styles from across the world to take you down a journey of universal sound. A musical alchemy of different cultures, genres and languages from Senegal West Africa, Yemen, China, America, Japan, India and the UK. Ranging from lo-fi hip hop/ boom bap to afrobeat influenced rhythm sections and emotive breakdowns all in one track.

The idea behind the album was to compose music which didn't stick to the typical boundaries of genre or culture, though always having the upmost respect and appreciation of where each element was created and originated from. The album "Human Kind" represents the the human culture as one, without identifying the whole self or song to one place or community, but to celebrate the immensely beautiful and diverse expressions from across the world.

When adding vocal samples in languages she didn't understand, there was breath taking beauty purely in the tone, the rhythm and emotion in the vocals that invoked a particularly spiritual and thought provoking journey. There was a humbling realisation that despite not knowing what was being said at the time, she was able to take her own interpretation and feel connected to the vocalist in a deeper way despite having such different cultures, which encapsulates the freedom and connection of expressing ourselves as humans. She has since been in contact with interpreters to truly connect with the culture and lyrics being expressed.

The producer behind Favilla, Emily Musto, is the lead vocalist and lyricist of her own project Ember and Sentient Sound. Words have always had a meaningful place in her heart but she felt called to express her inner self without too many lyrics directing the narrative of her tracks, for herself or the listener. More of a journey of interpretation of the heart which can change from moment to moment, track to track.

She hopes you love the album as much as she does and it is sent to you with SO much love and appreciation for all that you give to the world just by existing.

You are seen, you are precious, you are loved and appreciated.
